Project Name: Velddrif Solid Waste Transfer Station

Client: Bergrivier Municipality, Western Cape, South Africa.

Project Description: The project comprised the design and construction of a solid waste transfer station at Velddrif to replace the existing unlicensed Velddrif disposal site which could not obtain an operating permit from the statutory regulator. As part of the Waste Disposal Strategy that was developed for the West Coast District Municipality, all the waste generated within the boundaries of the Bergrivier Municipality will in future be transported to the licensed waste disposal site at Vredenburg in the neighbouring Saldanha Bay Municipality. The construction of this transfer station is in accordance with this strategy and has been provided for the waste generated in the western portion of Bergrivier Municipality.

The design capacity for storage is 90m3 and it currently receives approximately 14 tons of solid waste on a daily basis.

Waste from this transfer station is transported by road in 30m3 hook-lift containers to a licensed landfill outside the jurisdiction of the Bergrivier Municipality.
